Please adopt a dog named Meg

I was in the parking lot of my hotel in Topeka, Kansas when this gorgeous four legged girl came up to greet me.  She was interested in being my friend but with distance at first.  She followed me into the lobby of the hotel and we became immediate bffs playing for over an hour.  No tags, no collar, no trace.  Roger, the hotels sales manager and my other new bff is a huge advocate for animals.  He heard of our new friend and drove an hour out of his way to pick her up and bring her to the humane society and promptly named her Meg.  She is sooooo sweet and has not been adopted yet.  My heart is heavy thinking of her.  I thought it might help so share this story, maybe you know someone in Topeka who wants an adorable new bff.  I sure hope so.  Roger, thanks for all your visits, treats, and walks with Meg.  How can you resist this face?   

Why do bright colors feel good?

Why am I so attracted to colorful things?  Why does my heart sing when I see this wall of color?  Why do I feel alive when I am around color? First, think of everything being made of energy and vibrations.  You, me, the plants, the sky, music, your dog, all vibrate at a frequency of energy.  When humans vibrate at a high frequency we are said to be state of joy or feeling good.  Any self help book will tell you exercise, laughter, and being in nature lift our vibration just to name a few.  Well, turns out colors have vibrations too.  Very muted colors have low vibrations like tans, greys, etc.  And saturated colors like the above have very high vibrations and that translates to feeling good around them.  That's why I choose to use bright colors in my paintings, to lift people up, to help heighten our vibrations.  So, in a round about way you could say my paintings are therapy for the soul!  Love it! 

Hop To It in 3D

This is a great example of series of 24 unique prints available on megharper.com and at art festivals on various flooring and cabinet materials.  We are PRINTING on marble, travertine, Pergo, porceline and cabinet materials to create an a more rustic/contemporary, 3D, one of a kind, already framed, doesn't look like a print, print!  The backing is fauxed and made from cement siding and the tin is from a barn roof in Missouri.  They are UV protected and sealed so you can also hang them under a covered patio.  What a story to tell!!  This jackrabbit image was inspired after a trip to Yosemite National Park.  It's called Hop To It and it's a blend of my most favorite forest colors.  Just click on the drop down menu where the paper prints are on the website and see if it's an option, they range from $125 to $175.   This rabbit was chosen as a new print through a recent contest through Facebook, thanks to everyone who participated.  Because these materials are all reclaimed this delicious series won't last forever, so if you love it buy them now! 

Yep, I'm a tree hugger and proud of it

I recently was blessed to be able to go to Yosemite National Park and visit the forest there.  It's magical.  The trees are so powerful and peaceful.  The forest there felt playful, solid, reverent, energizing, rejuvenating, mysterious and timeless.  This is just one of the grand beings gracing us with it's wonder.  I felt so small yet so connect to it all.  The forest inspires me. 

"Guerilla Studio" - painting on the fly in Boulder

 We spent some time at our favorite friends bungalow in Boulder, CO.  He has a glorious backyard filled with wildflowers and lots of green foliage.  I took it upon myself to set up my studio with two trash receptacles and a hollow core door for the table top.  I love the easel, a tree trunk, PERFECT.  I had so much fun, it felt like the jungle with squirrels and birds checking out what this lady was doing on their turf.  I even had a canopy with the trees above me for the daily afternoon showers.  I figure, if I'm IN nature, feeling it's healing energy, painting nature, it's got to be a super duper dose of sunshine that's a bonus gift hidden in the painting.  Needless to say, "Cowabunga" sold right away so I am going to say it worked perrrrrfectly.  Note to self, sunshine induced paintings zing!

 

Latest and greatest silly cigar box purse called Escape.




Jill loved the fun of the cigar box purses and it took her a while to be able to decide which one to get.  She brought friends, husband and passers by into her decision making and it was so much fun.  I think she picked a great one myself.  Loads of laughter with this guy for sure!!!  What a conversation piece : ) 

Painting pet portraits in the wild, my fav

On the road again painting in nature, my favorite!!!!  I am surrounded by wild Iris, butterflies, and the sweet, sweet sound of wind going through the aspens.  Lucy is a labradoodle pet portrait commission and is so fun to paint vibrant, wild and easy to put in the Meg Harper flair. I am painting her on reclaimed tin, a favorite of mine : )  I am grateful to be in Cloudcroft, NM for a festival and experience the wilderness above Las Cruces at 8500 ft. elevation.   Happpy Memorial Day weekend everyone!!
